Inaugural Lecture by Dr. Sanghamitra Basu:
An International Webinar entitled "The Global Heritage Movement and Cooch Behar" was organized by the Cooch Behar Archive from 18th-20th of June, 2021. The Webinar was inaugurated by Dr. Sanghamitra Basu, Coordinator, National Scientific Committee, Historic Towns and Villages, ICOMOS India, fomer Professor, Department of Architecture & Regional Planning, IIT-Kharagpur.
In the Inaugural session Dr. Basu delivered an invaluable lecture on "Cultural heritage and development: changing perspective and new approaches".
Dr. Basu has over 35 years’ experience in teaching, research guidance and consultancy projects in the fields of heritage studies and preservation of historic areas, quality of life, housing and neighbourhood planning.
She has several publications in journals, chapters in books, monograph and papers presented in international and national conferences and authored over 60 technical articles. She has also organized several training programmes such as online course on Architectural Conservation and Historic Preservation as a part of National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning and was Host Faculty / Coordinator of courses on ‘Heritage Management’ and ‘Heritage and Disaster Management’, under Global Initiative of Academic Networks supported by MHRD, Government of India.
During the years 2011–2014, she served as a Member of the National Monuments Authority, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and is currently serving as a member of several bodies like INTACH Architectural Division Advisory Committee, New Delhi; Steering Committee – the Scientific Council, ICOMOS India; Heritage Conservation Committee, Kolkata/Municipal/Corporation.
It is of note that, Dr. Basu played an important role during the declaration process of Cooch Behar as a 'Heritage City'. Presently she is also serving as a Consultant to the West Bengal Government regarding Cooch Behar Heritage.
We are very delighted to announce that besides India, seven countries namely — Bangladesh, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, Monaco, Bulgaria and United States of America participated in our International Webinar. Three hundred and twenty four (324) participants registered for the Webinar. The Webinar sessions were also Broadcasted on our facebook page.
