Alpaca Wool From Peru - Fiber of the Gods - Inkari

Описание к видео Alpaca Wool From Peru - Fiber of the Gods - Inkari

Alpaca wool is of extremely high quality, and one of the most exclusive fibers in the world. The natural habitat of alpacas is in the Peruvian Andes.

Due to the large difference in temperature and extreme altitudes, the alpaca has evolved a special, smooth, hollow fiber. Their wool is not only tremendously soft and light, but also insulates during cold temperatures, and becomes breathable in high heat. This unique combination makes for a very comfortable product of high quality.

Alpaca wool is used for over 5,000 years and has always been known for its fineness and special features throughout civilizations in the Andes. During the pre-Inca era, alpaca wool was reserved to dress only those in the royal families.

Alpaca wool does not contain lanolin, making the wool hypoallergenic, and its smooth fiber makes it neither itch nor sting the skin like other types of wool. Over 80% of people with wool allergies do not have a problem with alpaca wool.

The alpacas live in free and natural environments. Local farmers keep alpacas for their wool, which is usually their only source of income. An alpaca can be sheared once a year. The first time that an alpaca is sheared, its wool is the softest and highest quality wool. This is known as ‘baby alpaca wool’.

The alpaca has acquired a lot of publicity over the last 20 years, and has spread to many other countries around the world. Unfortunately, climate differences make the alpaca wool decrease in quality over time, as it loses its unique climate and altitude provided in the Andes. It causes the wool to lose its key feature: its fineness. This is why Alpaca d’Oro chooses to only use alpacas from Peruvian local farms in the Andes Mountains.

The alpacas are well cared for during and after the shearing process, and never suffer throughout their lives on Peruvian alpaca farms.
