The Olsen on Law Radio Show has been on the air for 40 years. From our radio show, we have videos of real people asking real legal questions. We help people to avoid probate and do their estate planing including wills, living trusts and powers of attorney. We also help people get free in-home care for seniors and help people protect their wealth from the cost of a nursing home. We are the Olsen Law Group in Orlando and we assist clients throughout the State of Florida.
Attorney Tom Olsen: We talk to our clients about the program, about free in-home care for seniors, and they are thrilled to find out that there's such a program available here in the state of Florida. When I tell them, yes, free in-home care for seniors for light cooking, light cleaning, helping you with bathing, medications, taking you to doctor's appointments. It is meant to keep you in your home longer. It is meant to keep you out of a nursing home. Boy, people's eyes, they just light up, they're thrilled with that prospect.
Attorney Chris Merrill: They really appreciate, and most people are not aware of this program. That is why we're very happy to educate people, tell people that this program exists. Here in the State of Florida, there are two programs, most people are familiar with the one, which is going to a nursing home, right? The other program is the home waiver program, free in-home care, up to 30 hours a week. That program, again, also offered under the same umbrella, the same program through the state of Florida, that program is the one that people are not aware of. We want to educate you. We're happy to speak to you about this program. However, if you would like to request the booklet, that is a good starting point. You can call our office anytime, 407-423-5561, and we are happy to mail you our free booklet on the in-home care program and or you can go to our website anytime at olsonlawgroup.com, and there you can also request the booklet as well.
Tom: I do put a qualifier on that, it is that the free in-home care for seniors, when you need it. When you're ready, the State of Florida will survey you, and they'll ask you questions, and you have to rate a five. If you rate a one, you don't really need it. They're not going to give you free in-home care. You got to rate a five before the State of Florida will provide this free in-home care for you. When that time comes, we can help you anticipate what those questions will be and help you accurately answer them to the best of your ability to be most likely to rate this five.
Chris: Correct. Tom, yes, you are absolutely right. There are really two parts to this program. One, there are the necessary, as part of the application, sometimes some people need to be able to have some legal documents done. Those legal documents can be done ahead of time, even prior to you needing the care. Then part two is when you would need the care, you were a loved one, then the very first step in that is you need to be able to score the five. There are multiple, if you will, steps of the program, qualification process, and we're happy to review all of those with you by phone, by an in-person appointment, and or starting with the booklet. You can get that or our upcoming workshop.
