Описание к видео Brave × Junction [ブレイブジャンクション] Game Sample - PS5

Are you feeling lucky punks? Well??? Are ya!? "Brave x Junction" is a fun deconstruction of your typical RPG / Dungeon Crawler where lady luck and RNG is as involved with the process as actual skill. Released earlier in 2025 by "RideonJapan" for Steam, PS4/PS5 and Nintendo Switch (where the NS version was censored upon leaving Japan, but Rideon were still generous enough to release it at all), the game is a bit of a departure from their usual output like the "Mercenaries" series and is, in actuality, a spin-off to their "Fushigi no Kuni no Bouken Sakaba" (AKA "Adventure Bar Story") series, taking place in a similar world with two recurring main characters (neither who are strictly mentioned by name as a running gag, but I'll let you figure it out, they both appear during this video). Whereas the Adventure Bar Story was "Atelier Elie Meets Recettear Meets Kemco RPG Grid-Based Battle System with Atypical Leveling Scheme" and Adventure Labyrinth Story is "ABS Meets Mystery Dungeon", Brave x Junction is a simplified Dungeon Crawler with "Backjack" at the core of its gameplay.

Blackjack? Like the card game? Yes, THAT Blackjack.

While Shinichi Yoshiike's design DNA was in the other ABS titles (which isn't surprising since he was involved with quite a few of Gust's "Atelier" games), he's nowhere to be found in this one. It's not an inherently bad game and is actually pretty clever within the confines of its main premise and features a silly but barebones plot. A lone female warrior awakens in a place known as the Enclosed Shrine, a place teeming with monsters. Equipped in special armor and with a foggy memory, the warrior eventually fights her way to the surface with the help of a mysterious gentleman who goes by Scarface and learns that much has changed. Making her way to the only town in the area, the Mining Town of Dichroia, she learns that she was originally summoned to slay the Demon King but that she had been asleep for over 100 years and the Demon King has already been vanquished. Now lacking a purpose, she is persuaded to become an adventurer instead and travels to different areas seeking clues as to why she was awakened again.

I will address the biggest elephant in the room: The localization (at least in English) was very likely done by a machine; there are frequent typos and odd phrasing that often comes off as stiff or unnatural, but since the game doesn't have a particularly large amount of text, everything is still generally understood. While Andy Gerding is listed in the credits for the localization, I can't help but feel that it was first translated by machine and then given a single pass for the script to clean up any glaring abnormalities. Either way, the dialogue at least goes for a playful approach and isn't designed to be taken seriously. One thing I do like about the dialogue is that as you get more characters, the conversations in the dungeon are tailored to each of their personalities (since you can only bring one character into the dungeons at a time), so if you really prefer a certain character, you will want to stick with them to get all their dialogues.

Moving on to the gameplay, Besides HP and MP, you have three main stats: Str, DMR and Draw. While strength is pretty self explanatory (dealing damage difference between the players Strength / Drawing and Enemy's Strength / Drawing), DMR will give a further damage bonus based on the difference between what was drawn and the DMR stat (for example, if you draw a 20, an enemy draws a 14, and you're DMR stat is 2.5, 6 x 2.5 = 15 extra damage) and the Draw stat allows you to pull cards to get closer to 21 or "Blackjack". DMR has the potential to be broken depending on the build you're going for, so don't underestimate it from raw strength. There is also a Capacity (Denominator) stat for players and enemies (it defaults to 21 for the heroes), and exceeding this value will cause you to "Bust", leaving you open to attack. Sometimes, this can work in your favor, but you want to avoid it most of the time. Each character (Fighter, Thief, Magician) and enemy has cool abilities to really manipulate the odds of drawing and damage, turning what is ordinarily a game mostly reliant on luck into something that becomes more skill-based. With practice, you can really predict and anticipate what will happen just based on the situation (the A.I. is also super predictable in late game, usually coming +/-1 of Blackjack or hitting Blackjack, although they can still Bust and do goofy stuff, the tutorial goes further into the logic).

The game looks and sounds pretty nice in a simple, old-school way. Character and enemy illustrations are nice, combat doesn't have too many bells and whistles in terms of visual flair, but each character has their own battle theme, and the game is pretty fun overall (the post game is fairly monotonous though). It's available on PS4/5/PC/Switch (Switch is Censored). This is a video of the game in action with transitions. Enjoy.
