🏅🥧Award-winning apple pie from start to finish! How to make the best homemade pie crust and best apple filling! Gluten-free or regular.

And by the way, for my gluten-free friends this crust is everything you ever wanted!!

CRUST— REGULAR
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 cup butter (2 sticks), each stick cut into 20 pieces
1/4 cup ice water to start, plus more as needed (you may need up to 1/2 cup)

CRUST— GLUTEN FREE
2 1/2 cups gluten-free flour blend (see Note)
2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons xanthan gum (use 1 teaspoon if your flour blend already contains some)
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 cup butter (2 sticks), each stick cut into 20 pieces
1/3 cup ice water to start, plus more as needed

**For the gluten-free flour you must use a “cup for cup” type. I highly recommend Pamela’s: https://amzn.to/3ufemVd

**King Arthur Measure for Measure and Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 baking flours are also good. Do not use Bob’s Red Mill All-Purpose gluten-free baking flour.

APPLE FILLING
9 cups peeled and sliced apples, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
2 tablespoons water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour blend
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon allspice
