This month's deer management video with Chris Rogers was filmed back in April, right at the start of the roe buck season. Chris heads out in search of roe and muntjac on an early morning, and comes back with slightly more than we bargained for!
As a professional deer manager, it is Chris's full-time job to keep the deer numbers down on the estate, and muntjac in particular are always on the menu as they are notoriously tricky to hunt, especially once the crops and cover get higher over the warmer months. As such, if Chris sees a shootable animal, he will usually take the opportunity to cull it.
When it comes to roe deer management, as well as reducing the numbers and thus reducing damage, the health of the herd and quality of the animals it produces is important, especially in relation to Chris's client stalkers, many of whom prefer to shoot a good sized buck. This video is a perfect example of selective deer management, carried out with poise and skill. Enjoy.
