With the U.S. tightening up, China has moved quickly to introduce a new “K visa” (effective from October 1, 2025) aimed at young science, technology, and innovation talent.

Unlike many work visas, China’s K visa doesn’t require employer sponsorship and offers greater flexibility in entry, stay duration, and permitted activities (research, entrepreneurial, academic, etc.).

While the K visa is still new, it is being widely viewed as part of China’s bid to exit the U.S. visa shadow and attract global STEM talent.
