This project was produced and lead by Scott Howard. During a two week workshop, 20 students and dozen of local Dogon villagers worked together to complete the majority of the structure. The building is almost entirely made of earth. It is a catenary earthbag (rammed earth) dome, reaching 17 feet in height, with adobe brick Nubian vaults spanning buttresses. Adobe plasters with stone roof cap in adobe mortar stabilized with natural oils. Serving as a school house / library for villages in the area, it is (as far as we know) the first earthbag dome in Mali.
