This is the Murray Rd level crossing in Preston, on the Mernda line, with footage I took in November 2015, December 2016, July and October 2017, and December 2018. This crossing is on the Victorian government's list of level crossings to be removed. It is currently in the planning stages, and is expected to be removed by 2025

In November 2015, this crossing had:

Two Westinghouse hybrid bells. The bell on the western side was programmed to sound out after the boom gates have lowered. The bell on the eastern side was programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise

A mixture of Westinghouse and McKenzie & Holland cross-arms

Marked Westinghouse lights

Either WRRS or McKenzie & Holland boom gate mechanisms, both with McKenzie & Holland bases

By December 2016, this crossing was upgraded to have:

A Safetran boom gate mechanism on the eastern side and a Siemens boom gate mechanism on the western side

By October 2019 (after I uploaded this video), this crossing was further upgraded to have:

Two General Signals E-Bells replacing the Westinghouse Hybrid bells. These bells are both programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise. To see footage of this crossing with new bells, go to this link:

The suburb of Preston has four level crossings, Oakover Rd, Bell St, Cramer St and Murray Rd, and all are considered problems for the area. Up to 32 trains run through these crossings during the morning peak, resulting in boom gates being down for 40% of this time. Murray Rd was also rated the 25th most dangerous level crossing in Victoria, according to the Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model, adding to the merit of its pending removal
