Day 10 of our Missouri Road Trip brought us to Cuba, Missouri, a hidden gem along Historic Route 66. Known as “Mural City,” Cuba is filled with colorful artwork, history, and small‑town charm.

We checked off a bucket list item by staying at the iconic Wagon Wheel Motel, a Route 66 landmark perfect for hunkering down during stormy weather. From there, we strolled to Shelly’s Route 66 Café for breakfast, enjoying the friendly atmosphere and retro memorabilia.

Our day was spent exploring Cuba’s murals, the Visitor Center with exhibits on the Osage Nation, and statues honoring their history. We also visited the Crawford County Historical Society Museum, where we met a gentleman who was the former mayor and current alderman—who shared fascinating stories about Cuba’s past and his own childhood in the historic building.

By lunchtime, locals recommended Missouri Hick BBQ, and it did not disappoint! Great food, friendly people, and authentic small‑town vibes made this stop memorable.

Cuba, Missouri truly embodies the spirit of Route 66 with its murals, history, and welcoming community. As the rain set in, we returned to the Wagon Wheel Motel for a cozy evening, ending the day with warm food and small‑town hospitality.
