Another really nice radio controlled warbird from TAFT Hobby which would be perfect as a 2nd RC aeroplane for an intermediate RC pilot. In PNP form this Yak-11 takes very little time to assemble and has some nice scale features. You can also get a KIT version without electronics if you want to choose your own power and radio system. We noticed that the scheme is very well applied on this fairly large foamie due to the EPO foam being so dense. Great features include the steerable tail wheel for accurate ground control, split flaps for slow landings, the magnetic pitot tube and the pilot in the cockpit.

The power system runs off a 6S pack. We used a 6S5000 pack and it balanced out perfectly although we would advise a forward CG for initial flights although ensure you taxi slowly with maximum up elevator to avoid nosing over and breaking the prop. The power gets this warbird in the air quickly, almost quickly for it to take off in a scale way. Build up the power progressively to allow the tail to pickup before applying elevator and getting fully airborne.

In the air the power to weight ratio is perfect. This warbird can fly slow and stable with flaps or fast for scorching passes down the strip. This was the maiden flight so Jason kept things simple with some fast axial loops and a loop but we're looking forward to flying some nice scale aerobatics in the future.

Filmed by Dom for the 'Essential RC' YouTube channel using the Panasonic AG-UX180 Pro 4K camcorder. Jason flies the TAFT Fly Baby.
