Alligator compilation of gator's last days, feeding competition, and big and small trail crossings at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida. It was strange to watch an agitated alligator bobbing up and down in the water and even stranger to see a great blue heron calmly watching from just feet away. I spoke with authorities (Florida Wildlife Control) who examined the gator out of the water only to find no injuries. However, when it was released back in the water, it went back to the same place and only a couple days later it passed away. It was determined to be natural causes. I also happened upon a feeding 'competition' between two young gators, one obviously larger than the other that appeared to have a turtle in its jaws. The smaller of the two gators kept biting at the bigger gator, trying to share in the feast. In the end, the bigger gator held on to its prize. Watching gators cross the trail never gets old, especially when so many times it happens without warning. One huge gator...had to be 12 feet long at least...was napping across the trail. This prehistoric-looking reptile turned around at first, then finally swatted a bug and slowly went on his way showing his immense size and footsteps. The small gators always seem to walk further and have more "pep in their step" than the large gators. Someone once described the large gators to me as "fearsome" and the small gators as "fearless."
