Meet the students of the Empowering Ugandans School in Gulu, Uganda! This is a free school whose mission is "teaching marketable skills to create a brighter future” for the people of Northern Uganda.

The school currently offers two courses: The first is a five-week basic computer skills class. Many of its students have never used computers before, but in this course they are taught the basics of how to use a computer on the job.

The second course offered is a ten-week sewing skills class, teaching how to make quilts, tote bags, baby carriers, snap bags, pillow cases, and purses, which can be resold to tourists at a substantial profit.

In a place in which public schools charge fees that are prohibitively expensive to many families, the Empowering Ugandans school is completely free of charge to students, and food is provided to all students during each session.

The Empowering Ugandans School hopes to expand its offerings to the people of Northern Uganda, by offering additional courses to more students in the future.

The school is funded through donations to the Empowering Ugandans 501c(3) nonprofit organization in the United States, based in California. It was founded by my mother and stepfather, Yvonne and Jeff Weinstein.
