Diagnostics Leaders Debate

In October 2021, the government announced a £350 million investment in 40 new community diagnostic centres to help patients get earlier diagnosis by providing easier, faster, and more direct access to the full range of diagnostic tests required to understand their symptoms. Increased patient diagnosis will help reduce waiting times by diverting patients away from hospitals, allowing them to treat urgent patients while community diagnostic centres focus on reducing the backlog.

This panel discussion will look at how healthcare professionals are effectively implementing changes to help increase the number of patients diagnosed and in turn, decreasing the NHS's ballooning backlog.

Panellist:

Professor Paul Foster, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre [BRC], Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology
Dr Hari Jayaram, NIHR Moorfields BRC
Danielle Joseph, Programme Director, The Black Country and West Birmingham Acute Provider Collaboration
Dr Kevin Smith, President and CEO of the University Health Network in Canada
