On 6 December 2018, in a ceremony at the Royal Palace Amsterdam, HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands presented seven Prince Claus Awards for outstanding achievement in the field of culture and development. HRH Prince Constantijn presented the Principal Prince Claus Award to Market Photo Workshop (training institute and cultural platform, South Africa) and presented Prince Claus Awards to Adong Judith (playwright, film & theatre-maker, Uganda), Marwa al-Sabouni (architect, Syria), Kidlat Tahimik (artist & filmmaker, Philippines), Eka Kurniawan (author, Indonesia), O Menelick 2º Ato (independent journalism & cultural platform, Brazil), and our first Next Generation Laureate Dada Masilo (dancer & choreographer, South Africa). The Prince Claus Awards Ceremony included a special performance choreographed and performed by Dada Masilo.

The Prince Claus Awards are given in recognition of outstanding achievement in the fields of culture and development. The Prince Claus Fund supports, honours and connects artists and cultural practitioners where culture is under pressure.
