This battle rap is an event performance by "Alternative puppet theater Gekidan★Shiki" at the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki, Japan in 2017.
In this cultural promotion performance, Contemporary Art Detective Gendai Chikousuke and Curator of Hell, who are eternal nemeses in the puppet theater storyline, rap about the history of painting.
During the exhibition period at the museum, Gekidan★Shiki produced a special audio guide to introduce the works in the permanent collection of Taro Okamoto. This was a rap battle that took place along with an actual puppet show as a related performance at the time.

このバトルラップは、2017年に川崎市岡本太郎美術館（日本）で、オルタナティブ人形劇団「劇団★死期」が行ったパフォーマンスである。
人形劇のストーリーでは永遠の宿敵である、現代アート探偵ゲンダイチコースケと、地獄の学芸員とが、絵画の歴史をラップで紹介する、文化振興的パフォーマンスである。
この美術館での展覧会期中は、岡本太郎常設展示作品紹介の音声ガイド特別版をGekidan★Shikiが制作した。これは当時の関連パフォーマンスとして、実際の人形劇とともに行われたラップバトルである。

Alternative puppet theater Gekidan★Shiki was formed in 2010, organized by contemporary artist Hiroko Okada and supervised by Makoto Aida. Working with different participants depending on the concept of each project, the theater is comprised of diverse people, from housewives and children to artists and art world insiders. The theatre's motto is to always “stay experimental”, and their varied formats range from puppet shows to street performances, produced on an irregular
schedule.
A puppet theater by name, Gekidan★Shiki certainly features puppets: but all puppets are produced by the participants themselves, with a focus on each member following their own creative vision. This lack of a unified design results in the chaos of various styles which is the theater’s unique and impactful visual identity.
This is part of our “Case-book of Contemporary Art Detective Gendaichi Kosuke” series. The series is a horror-suspense fiction that deals withthe battles between a private “contemporary art detective” Gendaichi Kosuke (“gendai” in Japanese means “contemporary”, and the name parodies one of the most famous Japanese detectives in fiction, Kindaichi Kosuke) who uses his deep
knowledge about art to solve mysterious cases, and the mastermind of puzzling murder cases, Jigoku-no-Gakugeiin (“Hell's Curator”]. Usually a lazy, unreliable slacker, Gendaichi suddenly transforms into a genius when it comes to contemporary art. On the other hand, Hell's Curator is deeply resentful of the current state of the art world. The story's key scene, the so-called “Art Battle” between these two characters, starts with them yelling “I will defeat you!” and includes everything from art and philosophy to social and political issues, economics, and more, in a scathingly satirical tone. Other characters including the rich American genius girl Becky (Gendaichi’s assistant), and Gaikotsu-Deka (“Detective Skull”), a vulgar policeman with zero-intelligence, add more color to the story. Camouflaged as cute crafty puppet shows for kids, this theater also contains candid criticism of the art world.
