Title of the music:
Roundasax: Spanish Reveries
composed and performed by Bernd Klein
The music is rooted in the Andalusian progression. Instead of the traditional C-Bb-Ab-G sequence, I opted for G-Bb-Ab-G, transforming the first and last chords into minor. This subtle adjustment shifts the progression into a distinctly minor tonality, perfectly aligning with the rich, emotive mood of Flamenco and other expressive styles.
For this piece, I performed on a variety of instruments: drums (via keyboard), bass guitar, piano, organ, keyboard strings, synthesizer, alto, and tenor saxophone. On top of the chord sequence, I layered a captivating melody—a winding, circular theme reminiscent of a roundabout. Played primarily on the saxophone, this recurring motif inspired the piece's title, Roundasax (Roundabout).
This composition is a remake of my song from March 2023, which you can find here: YouTube Link. At that time, I was still quite new to the saxophone, having played for only a few months. Naturally, there were some squeaky moments, but the essence of the piece was there.
Given the Andalusian chord progression, it felt natural to pair the music with a film capturing impressions of Spain—its landscapes, architecture, and culture. The visuals highlight some of Spain's most iconic attractions, including:
Jardines Alcazares
Alhambra Palace, Granada
Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba
Plaza Puerta del Sol, Madrid
And for the grand finale: Gaudí's masterpiece, the Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
This combination of music and imagery celebrates the vibrancy and allure of Spain, drawing listeners and viewers into its timeless beauty.
