The word “aardvark" means ‘Earth Pig’ and sometimes they’re call the Ant Bear. Native to Africa, they have a sturdy body, stout legs, an elongated snout, and long ears. The adaptable aardvark is expert at searching for food by using their sharp senses of smell and hearing.

The self reliant aardvark moves under the cover of darkness to locate their preferred prey: termites and ants. They can ingest a large number of insects with their long, sticky tongue. With their powerful claws, they can not only dig them up quickly but also excavate a complex tunnel system. Although solitary, aardvarks do cross paths with the opposite gender during the mating season. The females give birth to a single offspring after a 7 month gestation period. Their newborn cubs are initially helpless and reliant on their mother before venturing out into the world alone.
