Let me introduce you to the new and powerful light storm LED lamp from Aputure, the Light Storm LS 1s.

So why is this lamp interesting? First of all, it’s ability to produce natural colors is amazing. There are many poor LED lamps out there which often creates unnatural light, looking to much green or purple The Light Storm has a Color Rendering Index, also called CRI at 95. 100 is the maximum CRI value, and this measurement shows how well a light produce natural colors. Normally a cheap LED lamp has a CRI of 70.

Also it’s extremely powerful. When standing half a metre away from it with maximum power, it produces about 30 000LUX. That is almost equal to a traditional 1000Watts tungsten lamp. However the Light Storm is much easier to operate due to the LED's, so it’s colder, smaller and more power-efficient.

In addition of being a good quality lamp, it’s great to have the opportunity to use Sony V-mount batteries. You can also buy an Anton Bauer battery mount, if you prefer that type of batteries. Two 90 degree antennes makes the wireless control of the lamp easy to use, and you can operate it from all angles. If you have several Aputure lamps, you can control them all together from this remote. There are also DMX inputs for more advanced controls.

The best part is that the lamp with the controller box, diffusion paper and all that stuff, costs only 695 dollars. That’s crazy, and I’m really looking forward to use it in upcoming film projects.

I shot the whole video with my Panasonic GH4 together with my Metabone Speedbooster and my Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. I used the flat Cinelike D picture profile, and added the Filmconvert Pro effect in post.
