IMA Passing Out Parade 2014: A total of 700 cadets passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun on Saturday of which 636 joined the Indian Army while the remaining were foreign cadets. The foreign cadets are from Bhutan, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan &Lesotho. After the passing out parade, the 636 cadets got their lieutenant's pips. Nepal's Chief of Army Staff General Gaurav Shumsher J. B. Rana also attended the Indian Military Army (IMA) passing out parade in Dehradun. The commandant IMA lieutenant general Manvender Singh PVSM, AVSM, VSM and the Nepalese army chief was brought to the drill ground of the IMA in the Patiala coach driven by horses.The Patiala coach was gifted to the IMA in 1969, by Bhupender Singh, the king of the erstwhile Patiala royal estate.

In his address to the cadets of the passing out batch, Nepalese army chief SD SD Gaurav Shumsher Rana said that India and Nepal had strong cultural ties and the training at IMA is valued by them.
“Becoming an officer is not just about gaining knowledge of military procedures and training, but there is more to it, which comes from practical knowledge,” said the chief.The Nepalese army chief handed over the medals to the meritorious cadets of the IMA for excellence in training.

The coveted ‘sword of honor’ was awarded to Vishnu Peethambaran from Ernakulam, Kerala, for being the best all-rounder cadet. Vishal Dahiya received the gold medal, while Vishal Kalkal was given the silver medal. The bronze medal was received by Sidharth Tiwari. Jigme Dorji of Bhutan was adjudged as the best foreign cadet. The Chief of Army Staff banner was given to the Sangro Company.

Uttar Pradesh, with 121 cadets, topped the list of the number of candidates enrolled, with Haryana coming second with 62 cadets, followed by Uttarakhand with 57 cadets.

The IMA has trained 55,000 officers in its 81 years of existence.
