New winery Ashes and Diamonds in Napa Valley opened in 2017 with a striking mid-century modern interior design housed in some pretty funky architecture that had the passers by on Highway 29 jaws agape. But could the shock and awe of the place be more than just a new building in Napa? Could we actually be seeing the start of a new revolution for the wine industry in Napa Valley?

Founded by Kashy Khaledi, Ashes and Diamonds is by his account "Classic California winemaking set in classic California architecture.” Seeking something more reminiscent of the 1960’s/70’s in California winemaking, Khaledi enlisted winemakers Steve Matthiasson and Diana Snowden Seysses to capture that old-school feeling in the wines. Organic vineyard practices, “minimal” intervention, wines with energy and lower alcohol, Khaledi wasn’t the only after high quality wines of this genre; millennials were after them as well. Over the last few years the roar of consumers demanding wines that don’t beat them over the head with extraction and alcohol has become increasingly louder. Ashes and Diamonds might not just be the next new winery in Napa Valley, but the start of a major and growing trend in wine as well.
