After the recent public comment from a couple very concerned about their forty minute long wait for the ambulance, two separate times, I discuss rural EMS response in this little video as we watch elk.

Rural areas lack many services that are taken for granted in a city, so before moving from a city to the country, consider your current and anticipated medical needs.

Illness or injury requiring fast response of an ambulance with a quick admission into the hospital can have a bad outcome when such does not happen. Deaths or debilitating outcomes that otherwise would not occur in a city with lightening fast medical services, happen in rural areas, because of the time delay between onset of illness or injury and rural ambulance response, plus the time it takes to travel the distance to the nearest hospital.

I take this fact of life in rural areas for granted. But learned that some don't know about the lengthy wait for an ambulance, after a couple recently made this written comment to the village council candidates: they'd moved to the village a year and a half ago and chose a home within the village after seeing the Fire Station and learning that there is EMS; since their move here, they've twice called 911 for an ambulance; in both emergency medical situations, the village EMS did not respond; therefore, they waited forty minutes for an ambulance to arrive from the nearest town. "This is unacceptable" they wrote. They asked the village council members to make 911 ambulance response from the village EMS their top priority.

Hearing their question to the village candidates, I suddenly realized that they did not know how it is, and if they don't know, it is likely many others moving from the city to the countryside, don't know either.
