Rangers Lead The Way. We’ve heard the term and many of us say it often; but what does that actually mean and why is the Ranger Regiment seen as the example for leadership in the US Army.

Retired General Joseph Votel commanded Ranger Regiment then went on to command USSOCOM, USCENTCOM and JSOC.

He sat down with Fran Racioppi to share his leadership lessons, why Rangers lead the way and why the best leaders speak last.

General Votel also unpacked the reasons why Hamas chose to attack Israel on October 7th, Iran’s malign influence and proxy warfare, and the responsibility of the other Gulf states in preventing regional instability.

He explained the opportunities the United States has in the region across the diplomatic, information, military and economic spectrum of national power; including America’s ability to mobilize for a peer-to-peer fight against Russia or China.

Plus he talked the officer-NCO relationship, and how effective leadership doesn’t require pages of policy, but a drive to get things done.
