The Irish Car Bomb is a simple drink with a complicated history. Learn all about the history of the drink, from it's invention in 1979 by Charles Oat at Wilson's Saloon in Norwich, CT to how Oat would later feel about the name he gave to the drink. We'll also give you suggestions on other names you can call the drink to feel more comfortable ordering it an Irish bar.

We had a little trouble finding information about the history of Wilson's Saloon, until we found this mentioned in an article from a local publication: Billy Wilson’s moved to 57 Broadway in 2001 under the ownership of Joseph Manfredi. Charlie Oat, owner of the Connecticut School of Bartending located next door to Chacers, sold the Billy Wilson’s name to Manfredi but retained ownership of the building. A father-and-son partnership, Paul and Sean Siefert, bought Billy Wilson’s from Manfredi in 2009 and continue to operate the tavern on Broadway.
