(15 Oct 2017) The Israeli Prime Minister has expressed support for US President Donald Trump's refusal to certify the Iran nuclear deal saying he "congratulated" the American leader for his "important decision" regarding Iran.
Trump on Friday had accused Iran of violating the landmark 2015 international nuclear accord, blaming the Iranians for a litany of sinister behaviour and hitting their main military wing with anti-terror penalties.
But Trump, breaking his campaign pledge to rip up the agreement, did not pull the US out or re-impose nuclear sanctions.
He still might, he added.
Speaking during his weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem on Sunday, Netanyahu said Trump's decision created an "opportunity to fix the nuclear agreement" and roll back what he referred to as "Iranian aggression."
Netanyahu also confirmed Israel's plans to exit from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) saying it had become the stage for "outrageous decisions anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic in fact resolutions."
The move follows a decision Thursday by the United States to leave the UN's cultural agency because of what it said was anti-Israel bias.
