A glacier burst in Ghizer district, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), has led to widespread devastation, with the formation of a 7-kilometer-long artificial lake posing significant flooding risks. The incident, which occurred on August 22, 2025, resulted in the blockage of the Ghizer River, submerging villages such as Rawshan and Tildas. Approximately 330 homes were damaged, and over 100 houses were destroyed. The Pakistan Army and local authorities have been actively involved in rescue operations, evacuating at least 200 individuals to safety. The main road of Ghizer remains closed due to the flooding, and relief efforts are ongoing to provide aid to the affected communities.
