The indian parliament has recently passed a bill onwomen's reservation in MP and MLA seats One third MPs and MLAs will be women now. But this will be implemented by 2029. This is because of delimitation.
Delimitation in Indian democracy has a rich historical backdrop. The first delimitation exercise took place in 1952, following the country's first general elections after gaining independence in 1947. This marked the initial attempt to delineate electoral constituencies based on population data from the 1951 census.

However, the process was frozen after the 1971 census due to political considerations and the potential for misuse of demographic changes. This freeze lasted until 2002 when the Delimitation Commission Act of 2002 was enacted. This Act allowed for the delimitation of constituencies based on the 2001 census data.

The freezing of delimitation for over three decades was a significant historical event, highlighting the complexities and political implications of constituency redrawing in the world's largest democracy. Subsequent delimitation exercises have aimed to update electoral boundaries to maintain fairness and representation in Indian democracy.
