The life of a person struggling with substance abuse is often chaotic, without structure or adherence to any sort of regular schedule. At A Forever Recovery, we remove the individual from their turbulent settings and replace them with a calm, peaceful and soothing environment. A major part of the recovery process is learning and adapting to a set daily routine. The day to day structure of life at our treatment facility helps to instill healthy, positive and productive habits in our patients that, when continued after graduation from our program, help them to maintain a clean and sober lifestyle.

Charlie, a 37 year old from Southeastern Virginia, came to our recovery center seeking help with his opiate addiction. Having recently graduated from the program at AFR, he sat with us to share his review of some of the daily life he experienced during his stay here.

His testimony starts out at the beginning with waking up. Charlie had two roommates that he shared a personal space with, and everyone pitched in to keep their living quarters clean and organized. This helps with learning to coexist with others as well as forming close personal bonds with fellow patients. After coffee and a healthy breakfast, classes would begin. MRT, one of Charlie’s favorites, is the core program at A Forever Recovery, which all patients must complete in order to graduate. “It’s a program that’s designed to help you change your thinking and your behaviors,” he shares. “I could go on forever about how amazing MRT is.”

After classes, Charlie would enjoy a period of personal time, where patients would do book work, use the gym, play sports or just hang out with one another. He found many friends at AFR, and confessed that the bonds he had formed here were stronger and more special to him than any he had formed before in his social life. The feelings of emptiness and loneliness that he experienced during his addiction were replaced with caring, compassion and love for his fellow human beings.

At A Forever Recovery, we realize that getting people off of drugs and alcohol is just one part of a successful rehabilitation. The bigger picture is showing them how to remain substance free long term. We give them the skills and the tools needed to live a healthy and meaningful life, free from the bonds of drug abuse and alcoholism. We give them a better today and a brighter tomorrow.
