🌿 My Personal Tips & Tricks for Studying History of Architecture (HoA)

📌 1. Break big topics into small themes
Instead of reading long chapters, I divide every topic into 3–4 themes like:
History — Culture — Architecture — Examples.
It makes the topic easier to revise and understand.

📌 2. Use colour coding to remember faster
I highlight:
Dates & Periods – Yellow
Key Features – Pink
Materials & Techniques – Green
Examples/Case Studies – Blue
This helped me visualize and recall during exams.

📌 3. Write in A5 sheets for crisp revision
I prefer to make short notes on A5 sheets because it forces me to keep the content clean, simple, and revision-friendly.

📌 4. Create exam-oriented notes
While writing, I imagine a 5, 10, or 20 marks expected question.
This helps me write in a structured way:
Definition → Features → Examples → Sketches (if needed).

📌 5. Make mind maps first, notes later
Mind maps help me understand the “storyline” of the civilization.
Once the flow is clear, detailed notes become super easy.

📌 6. Use relatable comparisons
I always compare ancient architectural elements to something modern.
For example: “A pylon is like a monumental gateway.”
This helps me remember quickly.

📌 7. Watch visuals while studying
Before writing notes, I quickly look at images or short videos of the monuments.
It makes the architecture feel real and improves retention.

📌8. Revise the same day
After making the notes, I revise them once at night —
It fixes the concepts in long-term memory.

📌 9. Don’t overwhelm yourself
HoA has many names, periods, and dates…
So I don’t try to memorize everything in one go.
I pick 3–4 monuments a dayand build it slowly.

📌 10. Practice writing, not just reading
The real scoring in architecture happens when you can **write structured answers.
So I practice writing 5-mark and 10-mark answers with timing.

These tips helped me alot while making notes and remenbering terms and etc.
