Japan's Princess Kako meets Greek leaders in trip to build ties

Japan's Princess Kako met with Greek leaders on Tuesday (May 28) as part of a week-long visit to Greece to mark 125 years of Japanese-Greek relations.
The princess met with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Princess Kako, a niece of Emperor Naruhito, read out a welcome note from the emperor conveying his greetings during a meeting with the Greek president.
Princess Kako also met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife Mareva at the prime minister’s office.
Her trip comes as part of a 2023 initiative by Mitsotakis and Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, to mark 2024 as the “Year of Culture and Tourism” between Japan and Greece.
On Monday Kako attended a ceremony Athens National Gallery, toured the Acropolis Museum, and visited a monastery on the island of Salamina.
A day earlier Kako visited the monuments on the Acropolis.
This is the third official trip overseas by Kako, daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, according to Japanese media.
