Hi, this is my attempt at recreating my all-time favorite bass part of my all-time favorite bass player.
That was quite the challenge, i hope you enjoy the result.
A HUGE thank you to Dave Richmond for his kindness and taking the time to listen and validate my work.
Thanks to Bruno G. for checking the score.
I’ve been working on this project for a while and Jane Birkin’s death makes it a bit strange, to say the least. May you rest in peace, Melody Nelson.

OOOPS : While working on a new version of the scores for a book, I noticed some mistakes in my initial transcription. The biggest being in the "A" part, shame on me ... Must be a bad habit from the time I was starting on bass and trying to learn this song. Anyway, the hammer of the second measure is actually a semitone, so it must be done with a G sharp before the A note. This applies to measures 2/4/6/8.

Nerdy corner :

The bass is a 1963 Burns Bison stringed with rotosound tru-bass tapewound black nylon. It was recorded in cubase direct to soundcard.
Selectors configuration : "Bass+B" (Neck and middle pickups)
The pick is a 0.73 Dunlop Grip now replaced on my last videos by an Herco vintage 66 light gauge

Thanks to the 5.1 mix made in 2011 I was able to isolate the bass part and finally hear more precisely what was buried under the strings. Conversely, this allowed me to create a playback almost without the original bass part.

Plugins used (in order) :
Amplitube 3 (only an emulation of a 12 inch cabinet with a Sennheiser md421, no amp)
Waves 30 bands classiq Eq
Wabes dbx 160 compressor

Words and Music : Serge Gainsbourg/Jean-Claude Vannier
Picture at the beginning taken by Tony Frank during the Melody Nelson London sessions.
