This week in the world of cycling, we learned that cyclists are still faster than triathletes. Cam Wurf proved this at the Ironman world championships setting a new bike course record. We also learned that Geraint Thomas’ Tour de France trophy was stolen from the UK bike show. And Lance Armstrong stepped in with a tweet!

After the news last week that EF Education First Drapac Powered by Cannondale and now clothed with Rapha will be setting a new path next year by racing non-UCI sanctioned, non-road races next year like Dirty Kanza, Red Hook and Taiwan KOM Challenge as well as their usual World Tour programme.

The annual American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics were released last week and they showed a drop of 8.1% in cyclist fatalities. A cause for celebration no doubt, but the reason the optimism is cautious is that the overall trend over 5 years is still a 2% increase. And when you see articles like this one by Carlton Reid in Forbes you can see why. Apparently research, again in the US, has shown that one in 13 car drivers is distracted when they overtake cyclists.
