Southwold is a small seaside town on England’s east coast, known for its calm atmosphere, soft colours, and the feeling that time naturally slows down here.

Our walk begins on Southwold Pier, home to the iconic Water Clock — a playful kinetic artwork created in 2000 by British inventor Tim Hunkin. Built from simple and recycled materials, the clock measures time through a gentle system of water, buckets, and moving mechanisms, giving the pier its distinctive and memorable character.

From the pier, we continue along the seafront. Colourful beach huts create a classic English seaside scene, while people relax on the pebbled beach, enjoying the quiet rhythm of the day by the sea.

Rising above the town is the Southwold Lighthouse, unusual in its location right among the streets rather than out on the coastline. Since the late 19th century, it has been a quiet landmark and part of everyday life in the town.

We then wander back into Southwold’s centre, where small independent shops, galleries, and cafés add warmth and character. The streets feel welcoming, the light is soft, and the town reveals its gentle, unhurried charm.
