Mission: Explore a Red Rock Wilderness & Drive on a Hogback!

Hey Guys, today we are going to a red rock wilderness located 10 miles outside of Canon City, Colorado. Before we tackle that mission, we'll head over to the Historic Skyline Rd. This is a one lane pass atop a hogback outside of Canon City. It was built in 1905 by convicts from the Canon City Correctional Facility aka, "Mad Max". The Prison/Museum is located right down the road and still hold inmates today. There are Dinosaur footprints, trace fossils, and even what I believe to be a large section of bone visible along this road. If you don't feel like driving the road feel free to bring your dog and walk it, as well as the other trails in the area where many trace fossils can be found.
Tucked away in the foothills just outside of Canon City sits 600 acres of Red Rock Jungle Gym and scenic views known as Red Canyon Park. These sandstone allys, some with 400 ft walls were acquired for the public by Guy U. Hardy in 1923. He was a Colorado Congressmen who developed several beautiful parks in the area and worked towards making the whole area around Canon City a public park. Respect! Feel free to bring your dirtbikes here and hike off trail as there are no boundaries within the park please just respect the private property borders surrounding it. (barbed wires) If you like mountain biking, hiking, and exploring then this is the place for you.
