As the Indian economy emerges as the fastest-growing major economy, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present her seventh union budget during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The upcoming budget is anticipated to maintain a strong policy direction, with continued focus on fiscal consolidation, capital expenditure, and governance reforms. With economic fundamentals remaining robust, all eyes are on Sitharaman's plan to sustain growth and prosperity for India. For India, growth projections for fiscal 2024-25 have also been revised upward by all the agencies. As per the Provisional Estimates (PEs), India’s real GDP is estimated to grow at 8.2 percent in FY2023-24.Growth estimates for Industry and Services remain strong. This budget comes with significant expectations and recommendations from Experts and Associations. India's oldest apex chamber, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham). In its pre-budget memorandum 2024-25, Assocham emphasized the need for structural reforms to boost productivity. Key recommendations include aligning monetary policies to control inflation and stimulate growth, enhancing labor market flexibility with social protection, and simplifying the tax system to encourage investment. Assocham also stressed the importance of easing credit access and promoting technological innovation for MSMEs, along with strengthening social safety nets for vulnerable populations. Direct tax recommendations focused on simplifying the TDS regime and reducing compliance burdens.
