HI, and welcome to Ottawa English. In this video, you’ll get some ideas about whether the CELPIP test or the PTE Core is the easiest test for you.

Generally speaking, which test you’re likely to find easiest will depend very much on your personal strengths and weaknesses. That doesn’t necessarily just mean your strengths and weaknesses understanding and expressing yourself in English, but also your adaptability in a range of situations. So, om anticipating the test, these are some to the considerations that may help you choose which test is easiest for you.

Let’s start with test length. At 2 hours, the PTE core test is quite a bit shorter than the celpip test so, if you find the 3-hours of concentration that CELPIP demands difficult, you may find pte core easier.

Waiting for your results can also be quite stressful, after all, for most test-takers the purpose of taking the test is to take the next step into permanent residency in Canada. If you don’t want to wait the extra day to know whether or not you can get on with your life, then the PTE Core test may be easier for you.

Test location is another important consideration. If you’re someone who lives in small cities or even a remote community, the additional travel, stress, and expense of travelling to a CELPIP testing centre may make PTE Core a much easier test – certainly far less demanding on your time, wallet, and mind.
However, that doesn’t mean that PTE core is any less expensive. CELPIP is $60 cheaper if you don’t have any added expenses for travel and accommodation.

Depending on your situation, you may find that the longer rescheduling window that PTE Core offers works better for you and makes everything flow more easily. Pte Core’s rescheduling is also free, whereas CELPIP charges $50.

Both of the tests are completed online, so you need to look at the specific test sections to see which is easier for you. Generally speaking, however, PTE Core seems to understand just how hard it is to come up with ideas when you’re surrounded by distractions, especially in its speaking section.

Both of the test offer practice materials. Most test takers like to work through practice tests to get a feel for the test and limit any surprises to the questions’ topics. CELPIP has a lot more paid practice material, but PTE Core’s question styles make any free reading, speaking, listening, and writing practice worthwhile.

Both tests are awkward in that you have to present yourself at a testing facility and face overly empowered gate keepers before emptying your pockets and sitting down at a computer.

I hope those considerations give you some food for thought if you’re trying to decide on which of the tests is easier for you.
