Low Voltage Solar Shed Ventilation Part 2 Another Day Another Project episode 5

Part 2 - finishing up the installation of additional solar powered shed ventilation in my largest shed. This video is footage from the solar shed ventilation video released earlier that couldn't be included.

I have some AGM lead acid batteries in my shed and various electronics which need to be kept cool. It has always been a struggle to keep the shed at a reasonable temperature in the summer, so I installed a car radiator fan. This worked great but in the peak of summer, it's not enough.

To avoid driving the main fan too hard, I installed a brushless DC 120 MM mining (or server) fan in the shed to help boost airflow in the summer. It will be powered by a 50 watt solar panel.

The fan is powered by a DC-DC converter which is fed by a 50W solar panel. This is a flexible setup because it can regulate the power to the brushless DC fan. Plus it can use a variety of DC inputs under varying conditions. Brushless DC fans must have a regulated DC supply to avoid burning them out. My favorite brushless DC fan so far for shed ventilation and cooling is the SJ SG121238BS type of fan. It is a server or mining fan vs. normal computer fan. Unfortunately there are many copies and they may all work different. The version I have runs OK as low as 6 Volts and is very smooth, moving lots of air.
