Crete, one of Europe’s most mountainous islands, features impressive limestone ranges running from west to east, forming three major complexes: the White Mountains, Mount Ida, and the Dikti Mountains. These mountains are part of the Dinaric-Taurus chain, linking Crete to a broader geological history across Europe and Asia Minor. 🌍

The White Mountains, or Lefka Ori, boast over 30 peaks above 2000m, including Pachnes (2453m). Known for its gorges like the famous Samaria Gorge, this area offers hiking experiences through untouched landscapes and high plateaus like Omalos. 🏞️


In central Crete, Mount Ida (Psiloritis) stands as the island’s highest peak at 2456m. The mountain is tied to Greek mythology, home to the legendary cave where Zeus was believed to have been born. Its green valleys and historical routes make it a haven for explorers and nature lovers. 🌿

Further east, the Dikti Mountains dominate the landscape with peaks such as Mt Spathi (2148m). The plateau of Lassithi, with its historical windmills and myths of Zeus, offers a unique glimpse into Crete’s cultural heritage. 🏺
