In this lesson, we will learn what an equivalent fraction is, why they are important, and how to calculate an equivalent fraction. An equivalent fraction is just a fraction with a different numerator and denominator but yet has the same meaning and value as the original fraction. We can calculate the value of an equivalent fraction by multiplying the numerator and denominator of a fraction by any number we wish - the only stipulation is that you must multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number in order for the new fraction to remain equivalent to the old fraction.
