Bridge girders escorted by police take up road before lifting into place with massive crane 🌉

Police cars and motorcycles escort bridge girders to a construction site prior to being lifted into place by one of Britain's largest cranes, for the Carrington Bridge widening project in Worcester, UK.

The two steel girders, fabricated by Cleveland Bridge in Darlington, were being transported by Collet & Sons Ltd under escort from West Mercia Police to the site entrance of the Carrington Bridge expansion project. The girders were then lifted onto the Carrington Bridge pillars by the heavy lift crane, Sarens Gottwald AK 680-3.

West Mercia Police's Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) were tasked with escorting the abnormal load, shutting down junctions and clearing lanes with Kawasaki ZG1400 motorcycles, and BMW X5 or BMW 530d traffic cars. Collet Ltd, heavy transport specialists, provided a Mercedes-Benz Arocs and a MAN TGX for the wide load transport.

The Carrington Bridge extension project is part of the wider A4440 Worcester Southern Link Road Improvements to travel flow between Powick and Junction 5 of the M5, Worcester.
