The independent member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines, moved to suspend the standing orders in order to debate her bill, the Australian Federal Integrity Commission Bill 2021. In the resulting divisions, the Liberal member for Bass, Bridget Archer, crossed to floor to vote for the suspension of standing orders.

While the vote to suspend standing orders did have a majority of those present, it did not pass. An absolute majority of members (76 votes) is needed to suspend the standing orders as required by standing order 47(c)(ii). This couldn’t happen due to COVID restrictions.
