The architecture of the Cathedral of the Sixth Redeemer as written by ZenLarke, member of The Monastic Order, Pillars of the Sixth.

Located on Oroael’s Rise at the Pillars of the Sixth monastery, the Cathedral of the Sixth Redeemer can be seen from the Tursan Petre Dei and surrounding valley…

As each day brings us through a journey of steps, the Cathedral’s oriented with its entry on the east, and altar on the west, to follow the path of the sun…

When approached through the woods, the cathedral is initially obscured by trees, then revealed in its glory, reminding us that, although at first we may only see through shadows, we see clearly in the light…

In front of the Cathedral, a slab of stone covers the ground, a reminder of how the Divine covered the past earths. The tree in the center harkens back to us of our journey out of the shadowy woods…

Inspired by Oroael, the Sixth Redeemer, founder of the fabled monasteries of the past, the Cathedral includes many hidden references to the number six…

From afar, the six pillars serve as a beacon of light to those who may have lost their way or who seek the sanctuary of serenity…

Six stone pillars float high above the entrance, six gargoyles guard the entrance to ward off evil spirits, and, at the base, six flames flank the entrance. The more you explore, the more you will find things built in sixes…

The Narthex contains public chests for offertory donations, replenished by monks and travelers alike, and open to those in need of help along their journeys…

As the Nave drops away, level by level, it tells the story of the layers of earth the Divine built to create the iterations for her beloved when generations of the past became irreversibly corrupt and evil…

The altar at the far end symbolizes Axis Mundi, the center of the earth, and its presence extends above all slabs of the earths, reaching upward to the Divine…

The altar and apse are defined by a six-sided structure, with six towers joined together at the top to create a skylight in the shape of a six-pointed star. The wood inlay at the altar reflects the six-pointed star….

The Cathedral is not just a gathering place, but also a place that may be walked and explored like a labyrinth. Although everyone chooses their own path, the journey may cross between earth and sky, dark and light, inside and out…a journey of discovery, mystery, and the dualities of life and death, good and evil…

The path to the worship area is not direct, but first leads one to sides of the narthex, down spiral stone steps and a series of narrowing stone stairs before reaching the pews and altar….

Buttresses form the side aisles and, although similar in structure and design, the north side is rooted in the earth, while the south side rises in the sky…

There are no rails along the exterior walk connecting both sides around the outside of the altar, reminding us life can sometimes be a precarious journey…

A pair of hidden stairs allow one to ascend to the six platforms and front balcony high above the altar…

Another set of hidden stairs grants access to the front towers and various roof balconies. From above, one can bear witness to the vastness of the earth with views far across the Heartlands, Wildlands, and beyond…

The north and south roof balconies connect via secret passages within the supporting trusses, and a secret narrow catwalk runs above the entry inside offering views back into the nave….

As with life’s journey, there are many places to find yourself within the Cathedral of the Sixth Redeemer…

All pilgrims are welcome to visit and explore the mysteries within and spend some time with the brothers and sisters of the Pillars of the Sixth on the mountain known as Oroael’s Rise. There, one may truly understand the roots and calling of The Monastic Order…
