Mount Minsi, sitting on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap, often gets overshadowed by Mount Tammany across the river in New Jersey. But if you're looking for a quieter, scenic alternative with fewer crowds and great views, this hike should be on your radar. I’ll take you up Mount Minsi on a well-marked loop via the Appalachian Trail, with postcard-worthy views of the gap and Mount Tammany along the way.

The route starts with a gentle climb along the Appalachian Trail, marked by its familiar white blazes, past Lake Lenape and up through peaceful rhododendron tunnels. Lookout Point offers an early payoff with sweeping views across the river. From there, the climb to Mount Minsi is steady but manageable, with even more great views—especially from the east lookout, which might be the best of the bunch.

At the summit, you’ll find remnants of an old fire tower and a final vista overlooking Portland, PA. The descent follows a wide, mellow fire road known as Lake Road, which is easy on the knees and takes you back to the trailhead. It's a great half-day loop, about 4.8 miles total, and one of the more accessible high-reward hikes in the Poconos.
