The Grey-shanked douc langur are critically endangered and have been listed among the world’s 25 most endangered primates. A few of them live in the semi-wild enclosure at the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre.
They have long white whiskers and a white tail. Both sexes have the same pelage colour, but vary in size with males averaging 9.3 kg and 59cm and females averaging 7.5 kg and 56cm.
The key difference from the Red-shanked douc langur is the grey arms and grey to black legs.
Langurs are a type of leaf-eating monkey whose multi-chambered stomach allows them to digest the stodgy plant food in between feeding times. The complicated digesting system is the reason for their big belly. Despite having a long to very long tail, langurs do not use their tail to manipulate or hold objects. The tail is not prehensile. But instead, the tail of langurs is dedicated wholly to help them balance when moving on branches or jumping amongst the forest canopy. Interestingly enough, nature favored langurs with such an incredible design that allows them to jump up to 12 m from high to low. Some langurs also use this tail to communicate. The douc langurs will swing the tail from side to side, or twirl in a circular motion to signal a threat or dominance.

Duki szaronogie są wśród 25 najbardziej zagrożonych naczelnych. Kilka z nich mieszka na quasi wolności w wietnamskim ośrodku Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. Mają piękne buźki i duże brzuchy (ze względu na skomplikowany proces trawienia; żywią się liśćmi). Mają długi ogon, ale nie jest on chwytny (tak więc nie pomaga im w przemieszczaniu się po drzewach, ani nie potrafią trzymać w nim rzeczy), natomiast pomaga im w zachowaniu równowagi i wykorzystywany jest do komunikacji. Potrafią skakać na wysokość 12 m.
