The current forecast track takes the center of Kiko north of the Hawaiian Islands on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hurricane Kiko continues to weaken over cooler waters as it continues on a track that should take its center to the north of the Hawaiian islands.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said in data valid at 5 p.m. Sunday, Kiko’s maximum sustained winds had decreased to 105 miles per hour, making it a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.

Hurricane force winds extend 30 miles from the center, while tropical storm force winds extend 90 miles.

The hurricane was located about 550 miles east of Hilo, or 750 miles east of Honolulu, and was moving to the northwest at 14 miles per hour.
