Bentley is bidding farewell to its legendary W-12 engine, replacing it with a cutting-edge twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 hybrid in the 2025 Flying Spur. This move marks the dawn of a new era for Bentley’s performance sedans, delivering both increased power and improved efficiency.

The 2025 Flying Spur now holds the title of Bentley’s most powerful sedan to date. The hybrid V-8 produces an impressive 771 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, representing a significant leap over the outgoing W-12 model. With a 19 percent increase in horsepower and 11 percent more torque, this luxury sedan accelerates to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds—half a second faster than its predecessor.

At the heart of its hybrid system is a 25.9 kilowatt-hour battery pack that independently generates 187 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This battery enables an electric driving range of 47 miles (based on the European Union cycle) at speeds of up to 87 miles per hour. When combined with the gasoline engine, the Flying Spur achieves a total range of 515 miles, making it an excellent choice for extended road trips.

Drivers can select from four battery-specific driving modes: Pure Electric Vehicle, Electric Boost, Regenerative Braking, and Charge. The Charge mode uses the gasoline engine to power the wheels and recharge the battery simultaneously. For added convenience, the sedan supports Level 2 charging, taking just two hours and 45 minutes to fully recharge at an 11-kilowatt rate.

Bentley’s advanced Active Chassis system is standard, incorporating adaptive suspension, all-wheel steering, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and updated electronic stability control software. The Flying Spur boasts a near-even weight distribution, with 48.3 percent at the front and 51.7 percent at the rear.

While the exterior design maintains Bentley’s classic aesthetic, subtle updates include a Speed-specific grille and a more aggressive front bumper with redesigned air vents. Buyers can enhance the look with a new Styling Specification package, available in either carbon fiber or body-colored paint. The color palette offers 101 options, including iconic shades from Bentley’s archives.

Inside, the cabin is packed with state-of-the-art technology. A new digital instrument cluster and a center touchscreen offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with over-the-air updates. Laminated glass ensures a quieter ride, reducing cabin noise by nine decibels.

Although pricing has yet to be announced, expect the 2025 Flying Spur to exceed the 2024 model’s starting price of $217,000 when it arrives later this year.
