U.S. THAAD missile defenses hit test target as North Korea tension rises

On July 11th, 2017 The US has successfully test fired its THAAD anti-ballistic missile defence system in the face of “nuclear strike” threats from North Korea. THAAD shot down a target that was fired from a US Air Force plane just north of Hawaii, the US Missile Defense Agency has confirmed.
The communist state infuriated US President Donald Trump by launching an ICBM thought to be capable of reaching US shores – some 8,000km away.
But Sam Greaves, director of the Missile Defense Agency, said the THAAD test proves the US can defend itself from an ICBM missile attack. He said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the government and contractor team who executed this flight test today.
“This test further demonstrates the capabilities of the THAAD weapon system and its ability to intercept and destroy ballistic missile threats. “THAAD continues to protect our citizens, deployed forces and allies from a real and growing threat.” Just hours before the drill, Pyongyang newspaper Rodong Sinmun issued a chilling threat to the Trump administration.
In an explosive article titled “DPRK is sure to win final victory”, the paper said North Korea’s ICBM is “capable of striking anywhere on the globe”.
These comments have been backed up by North Korea missile expert John Schilling, who believes a fully-developed ICBM could bypass US defence systems.
Rodong Sinmun wrote: “The DPRK proved before the world that it is the possessor of ICBM, capable of striking anywhere of the globe, and a nuclear power worthy of the name through the great success in the test-launch of intercontinental ballistic rocket.
“The destiny of the U.S. is under the thumb of the Korean revolutionary armed forces.” The paper vowed to defeat “evil empire US” and “build a socialist power” once it strikes its mainland with an ICBM.
It added: “If the US dares provoke the DPRK by ill-advised bravery, its mainland will be turned to ashes by the strong nuclear strike of ICBM. This is the inevitable destiny of the US.
