Salah ad-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub (1137–1193), famously known as Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi, was a legendary Muslim leader, warrior, and statesman. Born in Tikrit, he rose from a military commander to the founder of the Ayyubid Dynasty. He united Egypt and Syria under Sunni rule and is best remembered for defeating the Crusaders at the Battle of Hattin (1187) and liberating Jerusalem with justice, mercy, and wisdom.
