So what is a PRO? PRO stands for “Performing Rights Organization”. Their purpose is to collect royalties on behalf of songwriters and publishers for anytime their music is played publicly. This can be on the radio, in a venue, on a TV show, or in commercials.

There are 4 main PROs that exist in the world today. They are as follows:
1️⃣ ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers)
2️⃣ BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.)
3️⃣ SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers)
4️⃣ SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada)

Why do you need a PRO? Well, do you want to get paid for your music? I think all of us would answer that question with a yes. If you don’t sign up to be part of a PRO then you’re letting your royalties disappear into thin air.
