DETAILED REVIEW

THE Charisma range’s new look includes attractive full-height rear panels and simple graphics almost mirroring the top-end Swift Conqueror.

Add to that mix a nifty set of alloys and taller, fatter tyres (though not on this 620), all stirred together with the now familiar single-piece smooth aluminium sides; the concoction is a pleasingly fresh tourer.

Base level caravans within ranges just don’t deserve to look as good as this. Even A-frames look simpler with single 13-pin sockets many traditional experts in the industry said were inferior to the old dangly duo.

Staying outside and it’s some oily bits that beg your attention. They may not look pretty, add anything to kitchen practicality or increase bed comfort, but the quad of shock absorbers clinging to each wheel not only ensure a more stable and controlled tow, but decrease stress levels on internal fixings whilst the caravan is in motion.

Same layout but better equipment
Inside, the 620 layout remains almost identical to its predecessor, but kit levels rise - it’s great to see a quality brand Sharp microwave appear for the first time in Swift’s entry-level toys.

The kitchen retains the 107-litre digital Thetford fridge, three-burner hob with 800w hotplate and decent enough storage space when the low level unit beside the door is included in the equation.

I’m steering clear of decor opinion. Suffice to say it either floats your boat or sinks your heart. It’s a Swift so it’s going to be more modern than many out there. There’s plenty of chrome, brushed, matt and shiny and some even with a gold tinge.

The loo is Thetford’s wider, larger C250 model. It’s extremely comfortable, has extra large capacity and wheels so you don’t have to carry the thing.

This loo at the head of the full-width end washroom, gives way to a fully lined shower in the nearside corner. It’s large and pleasant to use, but if you’re expecting the stylish walk-in units seen elsewhere within Swift’s portfolio you’ll be disappointed.

The bed is the main point of the layout. The sprung mattress remains as comfortable as ever whilst the length increases by an inch to 6ft 4in.

Whilst I’m guessing that inch has been stolen from the washroom, from what I’ve seen you’re not going to miss it.

Our verdict:

This isn’t bad. All this extra kit amazingly results in a weight loss of 4kg. In short, the new 2009 Charisma improves in kit, component quality, and most of all appeal.
